What is the Animal Rights Academy?
Academic research on animals is advancing by leaps and bounds. The Animal Rights Academy was born out of the desire of scholars and activists to present animal rights in a new way, based on science and latest knowledge.
We, the members of the Animal Rights Academy, believe that the world changes only by increasing knowledge and understanding.
Why is the Animal Rights Academy needed?
The Animal Rights Academy is based on the idea that research and the new knowledge it provides can change our attitudes towards animals, as long as it is presented in a persuasive, understandable way.
There is a vast amount of new knowledge on e.g. animal minds, the links between climate crisis and animal agriculture, and the complexities of human attitudes toward other species. Making use of such knowledge is paramount, if we are to improve our relationship with nonhuman animals and live in a sustainable way.
How does the Animal Rights Academy work?
Our main channel of operation is social media, where we will actively use different channels to offer fascinating, scientific insights into nonhuman animals. We also aim to produce our own research publications, conduct investigative journalism and write statements on topical animal issues, whilst making available the most significant findings of existing research. We will also offer the general public science events on animals, and produce both a science podcast and a blog, together with videos available to everyone.
We highlight research in a multidisciplinary way from natural sciences to social sciences and the humanities. Despite our scientific approach, we strive to make our contents easily accessible.
At the beginning, our organization will operate in Finnish. In future, however, we plan to offer information also in English.
Because no academy is complete without art and culture, both are regularly included.
